The name of this tea is “Yellow Mountain Fur Peak”. It is one of the best Chinese teas. This fragrant, fresh and sweet tea grows on the hills of the Yellow Mountains, among the mists and cloud seas, fantastic landscapes, bizarrely bent pines, huge stones and steep cliffs. The region is a nature reserve and part of UNESCO world importance objects treasury. The tea from this region is mentioned in the Ming Dynasty Chronicles as “Huangshan Cloud”. But it became wide known as “Huang Mao Feng” in 1875 due to tea producer Xie Zheng An surnamed Xie Yu. He delivered the tea to the tea shop in Shanghai. It had excellent taste and highest quality and soon became very popular. Today the oldest plantations are situated at an altitude of above 700-800 meters near Taohufeng and Ziyunfeng Peaks, Yungusi, Sungguan, Diaoqiaoan monasteries, and Ziguangge Pavilion. The villagers of Tangkou, Gangcun, Yangcun and Fangcun villages harvest and produce high quality "Mao Feng". These people are called Si Da Ming Jia, “four well-known tea families”. This tea was accepted as one of “ten national famous teas” by the Chinese Tea Corporation in 1955. After that it started to be cultivated on the northern and southern chains of the Yellow Mountains, in the Huizhou, Shexian, Xiuning, Yixian regions (Anhui province).
The dry tea consists of thin green tea flashes (a bud with two leaves), and slightly curved leaves covered with pistachio green color hairs. The aroma of dry tea is elegant, with herbal and floral hints. The clear liquor has golden tint.
The bouquet of brewed tea is light, airy, with herbal and floral tones and slight melon hint. The taste is mild, sweet, silky, pure, as the taste of mountain spring water. The aroma is delightfully fresh and tender. The aftertaste is rich.
Huangshan Mao Feng is brewed with a bit chilled boiled water (85-90°С) in a porcelain gaiwan or in glass tea ware. Take 4 grams for 100 ml volume vessel. Rinse tea with water, make a quick infusion for a second and increase the infusion time gradually with each next brewing. This tea can be infused for 6-7 times this way.
It is an excellent ceremonial tea for tea collectors and enthusiasts who can estimate its elegant taste and gentle emotional effect.
