Elf dock (Inula helenium) is a perennial herb of the genus Inula of the Aster family (Asteraceae). Roots (Rhizoma et radix Inulae) were harvested, dried with big presicion under low temperatures and prepared in Serpukhovskiy district of Moscow region in July 2016.
The herb contains inulin and other polysaccharides, essential oil, bitters, saponins, tannins, resins, gum and alcaloids.
It has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, expectorative, choleretic and diuretic effects.
Elf dock is used in treatment of digestive and respiratory systems disorders, as well as liver and gall bladder diseases.
Contraindications: pregnancy, heavy forms of cardio-vascular illnesses, and kidney disorders.
Preparation: crush the dried root in a mortar, put 5 -6 g into a thermos, add 400 ml of boiling water and brew for 1 hour. Take 100 ml before meals.
The infusion is transparent, has a very light olive colour, a fine woody fragrance and a light taste with a touch of luscious bitterness.
