Oregano (Oríganum vulgáre) – is a perennial plant of the genus Oríganum, Lamiaceae family. The upper part of shoots with flowers were harvested in the Serpukhov district, Moscow region, in July 2016, and dried with great precision at low temperatures.
Inflorescences contain tannins, ascorbic acid, essential oil, which consists of thymol, carvacrol, sesquiterpenes and geranilatsetat. Essential oils with a high concentration of carvacrol take precedence over many existing antibiotics and antihistamines.
In traditional medicine flowers of oregano are used as an anti-inflammatory and expectorant for colds and respiratory diseases. It also enhances the intestinal peristalsis, helps at spasms of the gastrointestinal tract, chronic gastritis, inflammation of the liver.
Brew oregano as tea in health precaution. The recommended proportion is: 3-5 g. of inflorescences to 100 ml. of boiling water. When brewing in a mug or thermos the recommended proportion is: 2 g. Of inflorescences to 300 ml. of boiling water.
The drink has clear straw color with a bright, multi-faceted floral-mint flavor and juicy cool spicy taste.
It is widely used as a spice in the world cuisine. Goes well with basil, black pepper, rosemary and marjoram.
