Nepeta pannonica is a perennial herb of the genus Népeta, of the Dead Nettles family (Lamiaceae). Shoot apices together with flowers and leaves were harvested, carefully dried under low temperatures and prepared in Venyovskiy district of Tula region in July 2016.
Nepeta contains tannic substances, essential oil, ascorbic acid, glycosides and saponins.
In traditional medecine, Nepeta pannonica can be used similarly to catmint (Nepeta cataria): as an expectorant to cure bronchitis, as an orexigenic, and in treatment of anaemia and melancholy. When applied topically, it has bactericide and anti-pyogenic effects, cures furunculosis and festeering rashes.
For general prophylactic purposes, Nepeta can be used as usual tea drink. Use "pouring method" (pouring boiling water through leaves) in proportion: 3 g of dried herb to 100 ml of boiling water.
The ready drink is transparent, has a light yellow colour, a bright envigorating lemon-mint fragrance, and a light, slightly spicy taste with a shade of sourness.
