Genmaicha (japanese tea)

Not available
Nut
Grassy
Description and preparation
60 s 85°C 4 g

Genmaicha (gemmaicha) is a green tea (sencha, often with matcha) mixed with fried brown rice. Rice grains burst during the roasting process, so they look like popcorn. The sugar and starch in rice give the tea a thick, nutty flavor and a warm aroma. Genmaicha originated centuries ago within the walls of Buddhist monasteries, where monks mixed green tea with brown rice stuck to the bottom of their rice pots as a sign of humility and frugality. In addition, it is believed to have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the stomach.

Spring harvest 2020.

In appearance: thin, flat, green tea leaf tubes and fragments, brown and white foamed rice grains. The fragrance is intensive, warm, grassy-and-nutty. The liquor is a little cloudy, with a bright yellowish-green shade.

The bouquet of the ready-made tea is fresh, grassy-and-nutty with hints of popcorn and fried sunflower seeds. The fragrance is warm, grassy-and-nutty. The taste is full-bodied and oily, sweetish, with a slight herbal bitterness and a lingering finish.

Classic Japanese brewing method is to put the tea in a teapot at the rate of 3-4 g per 100 ml, add hot water (80-90°C), and after 60 seconds pour the tea into cups. You can steep the tea up to three times. The time of the second steeping is 30 seconds; for the third steeping it is 60 seconds.

«Genmaicha» is а brilliant choice for daily tea breaks.
