Mei Zhan (Wild Plum) is made in the Wuyi Nature Reserve area of the first tea shoots (harvest April 2017). Tea flowers look like plum blossoms, about which Chinese say «mei zhan baihua kui» (占 百花 魁 魁, «plum blossoms have the dignity of hundred flowers»). The first two words of this proverb were taken for the name of this tea cultivar, which has been grown for almost two hundred years both in the South and in the North of Fujian.
Dry leaf: lengthwise twisted, middle size, dark purple-brown color. The aroma is intense, fruity-biscuit. The liquor is transparent, apricot color.
The brewed tea has warm, refined, fruity-biscuit bouquet with hints of lemon, honey and spice. The aroma is deep and warm, fruity-biscuit. The taste is juicy and soft, silky, sweet, with lemon acidity, transforming into refreshing finish.
Brewing suggestions. Brew tea with hot boiling water (95°C) in a porcelain gaiwan or a teapot of porous clay. The proportion is 5 g per 100 ml. The first infusion should last for 8-10 seconds. After that do short brews (just for 1-2 seconds), increasing exposure time for each subsequent brewing, if necessary. You can repeat this method up to 8-9 times.
«Mei Zhan» is the right choice for a variety of situations and moods. Friendly, soft and profound, it will be understandable to beginners and will please the sophisticated lovers.
